Branding: Step 1- Logo Design

Logo design, what is the point? Branding (or rebranding) – the word alone can send the shivers down most CEO’s backs.  The thought of thousands of pounds being “thrown away” on a silly graphical exercise that ultimately delivers no firm ROI is unthinkable.

It may shock you to learn that since our logo design project the number of leads we’ve generated has increased by over 300%.  It shouldn’t shock you to learn that this was achieved by setting out a clear plan and strategy before we started our design work.

I’m lucky to be surrounded by a team of creative professionals that I can rely on for the quality of work they deliver and the creativity that runs through them.  We believe that the best place to start is the logo design.

Colour increases brand recognition by up to 80%

For those of you who know me personally it won’t come as much of a surprise that I chose a selection of beach and seaside colour samples to start creating my logo.  The block text and fonts selected help feed into the slightly corporate feel without being too boring.  And for those local to the area, the graphic is inspired by the rail-crossing in Calstock.

Getting the logo right made the rest of our rebranding process simple.  We knew that the major project was a redesign of our existing website.  By the time the logo was finalised we had branding guidelines which set out our preferred colours, fonts and styles.

I have a lot of customers who believe because they sell “X” they must have every image on their site with “X” included.  My team believe that a powerful and emotive website is driven by experience and I am delighted to use my new website as an example of this theory.  I certainly don’t sell any nature related products.  Nor am I based on the beach or have anything beach related – yet my new site has increased my leads by over 300%, it’s no coincidence.

91% of B2B marketers use content marketing to promote brand awareness

In fact, to take my feelings on the matter to the next level I would say that redesigning the company logo has been the single most valuable project I have undertaken within my own marketing processes since the inception of the company.  It amazes me that one aspect of branding can lead into so many other channels.  The improvements across our assets that have stemmed from the redesign are almost endless and the difference is huge when you compare it to where we were this time last year.  What a difference a year makes!
